Winnebago Co., Ill. (ECWd) –
During a Special Meeting of the Veterans Assistance Commission (“VAC”) of Winnebago County on July 29, 2026, the commission members voted to terminate the employment of its Interim Superintendent, Willie Borden Jr., who was hired into that position on January 15, 2026.
This comes six days after the VAC provided the public records we asked for in a Freedom of Information Act (“FOIA”) request related to copies of all complaints filed against Borden or the previous superintendent.
The 48 pages of complaints detail numerous harassment and other allegations against Borden; read them HERE, HERE, and HERE.
The VAC denied us copies of any investigations or findings of these complaints.
On March 2, 2026, we published an article detailing Borden’s firing of the VAC’s only certified Veteran Service Officer after she filed a grievance against him.
