Springfield, Ill. (ECWd) –
On May 20, 2026, the Illinois State Board of Elections ordered that one of the four alleged violations in a complaint filed against Chris Slusser, Madison County Board Chairman, was filed on justifiable grounds. The Board will now hold a public hearing for a final determination of the case.
This decision was the result of a closed session hearing where both parties (complainant and respondent) stated/argued their sides of the issues complained about.
The complaint consisted of allegations that Slusser received donations from 10 PACs totaling around $50,000, and that all the PACs were recently formed, and that letters sent to those PACs were returned undeliverable.
Original Complaint, Evidence, D4 Complaint, Election Board Order On Complaint.
We will update this after the public hearing.

Chris Slusser was caught having an affair with the Jersey County Treasurer in 2024 and she pled guilty to stealing around $50,000 of public funds. Hmmmm….no one gets money from 10 anonymous PACs for a county race.
Finally, something. I’m unclear why this man holds the Treasurers office as well as the County Board Chairman seat, which are incompatible offices. How is this possible? And what is wrong with Madison County voters to allow it?
Most boards including County boards can appoint a Treasurer. The Treasurer position is usually not an elected position. It can be a board member or someone not on the board.
County Treasure is an elected position in the State of Illinois. The only time an appointment can be made is when there is a vacancy and NO, a board member can not also be the Treasure in County Government.
Yes, I thought this was the correct position. I checked with two AI sources, one said the positions were compatible and one said they weren’t. County Board Chairman and Treasurer are elected positions in Madison County.
he is only the chairman
We do elect our Treasurer in my county.
