DuPage Township, feature

Alyssia Benford responded to Bill Mayer's threatening letter -

BY JOHN KRAFT & KIRK ALLEN

ON March 2, 2021

Bolingbrook, IL. (ECWd) -

We previously published an article, including a letter, written to the DuPage Township Supervisor Felix George, by former Supervisor Bill Mayer in which he is trying to get the township board to rescind an action taken in 2019 to issue a corrected W-2 form to Mayer.

The letter was written by Mayer's Attorney, John Spina, who was also the DuPage Township attorney when Mayer was the Supervisor prior to his resignation.

In response, Township Trustee Benford, through her attorney, Rob Hanlon, sent Spina this letter in response.

Key points from Benford's response letter:

  • Bill Mayer enjoys the reputation he has deservedly earned based on his widely reported conduct
  • Statements made during a public meeting are protected speech
  • Civil action (against a public body) must be commenced within one year, which clearly places the 2019 board action outside the statute of limitations
  • TORT immunity applies

We urge all to read the below letter, it is a fascinating read:

Ltr to Spina, 3-1-21

This link is for the claim Mr. Spina made in his letter to the township supervisor. That being that he, himself is “**ALSO ADMITTED IN FLORIDA”.

It’s not clear if there were a Florida admittance rule change after Mr. Spina’s initial registry with the ARDC in November 1988.
