Coles County, feature

Video: Head-on crash narrowly avoided -

BY JOHN KRAFT & KIRK ALLEN

ON June 25, 2019

COLES CO. (ECWd) -

As we were making our way to the Bloomington, Illinois city council meeting yesterday afternoon, we witnessed what can only be described as distracted driving nearly causing a head-on crash with an 18 wheeler.

As you watch this, it should remind you to always keep your eyes on the road.

Keep in mind, if both vehicles were traveling at the speed limit, they were closing in on each other at 110 mph.

Nice reminder but unless they were speeding they were probably only closing on each other at 55 mph. The cumulative close rate would be 110 mph. Witty enough? Really good reminder.

My first husband was killed precisely this way on Route 31 the night before his 36th birthday. The side of his head was entirely taken off by a fully loaded milk truck.
