Vandalism in Vermilion County re: Wind Farm protest signs –

By John Kraft & Kirk Allen

On February 15, 2015

Vermilion Co., IL. (ECWd) –

Within a few days of Mr. Hartke speaking at the Vermilion County Board Meeting where he asked for Chairman Mike Marron’s resignation, signs started being vandalized on his property. We note that Marron is the board member that filed a frivolous complaint against Hartke a few months ago seeking to stifle his speech at board meetings.

Hartke took a hit Friday night (Feb 13) (for the third time). This time, vandals did damage to the 4′ x 12′ sign on Ted Hartke’s property.  People may be getting upset that he is speaking out against InvEnergy.  See the photos below.

Two other signs have been stolen in the last few days.  The sign damages began after Ted Hartke requested that Mike Marron resign from the Vermilion County Structural Safety Committee because Marron’s family has wind turbines on their properties.  It has been reported that numerous households within the InvEnergy complex are having various levels of sleep disturbance from noise produced by wind turbines, and several families have informed the county board of the issues they are having.  The Vermilion County Board has not taken any action to protect residents, but perhaps they should consider it.

After some baling wire, they are still getting their message out there immediately following the vandalism.  (See photo of repaired sign, bottom.)

Vermilion County Deputy Showers went out and took the property damage report.

Please keep working hard in your communities!

It’s unfortunate that people resort to vandalism – what ever happened to free speech. My thought is that those people who vandal are so afraid of “wind companies losing out of being the ‘fair-haired’ boys who can do and say anything” that they resort to this.
