Edgar County Airport, Edgar County Board, feature

Airport Meeting Canceled - No Posted Agenda

BY JOHN KRAFT & KIRK ALLEN

ON January 10, 2013

EDGAR CO. (ECWd) -

In a surprise move, Ben Jenness declared the Airport Board meeting canceled for failure to post an agenda 48 hours in advance as required by law.

After a couple quick questions from citizens in the standing room only croud, it was obvious there have never been agendas posted in recent years. Make you wonder how the board could have taken any action on November 13th allowing Jimmy Wells to do anything.

Illinois Statute: Open Meetings Act, 5 ILCS 120, Section 2.02, which states that an agenda must be posted at least 48 hours in advance and must be continuously available for public view during the entire 48 hour period prior to the meeting.

Kudos to Ben Jenness. I look forward to more leadership
action from him. As a senior member of county board, he
has knowledge and experience to make good decisions.

The only people that deserve any “kudos” in this total
fiasco are the Edgar County Watchdogs. From my
observations of these two boards the past couple of
months the “do as we damn well please” way of
operating would appear to be over.
