Jefferson Co. (ECWd) –
Michelle McKinney, former Mayor of Nason, Illinois, has been ordered to pay $7,102.00 in Attorney Fees in her bogus defamation lawsuit she brought against local citizens and political rivals last year.
“The Court has reviewed the following: Defendants’ Petition for Award of Fees and Costs, Plaintiff’s Objection to Defendants’ Petition for Attorney’s Fees and the Proposed Order (prepared by Plaintiff). The Court finds that an award unto Defendants of the sum of $7,102.00 as to attorney’s fees and costs incurred in connection with the motion is reasonable and justified.
Defendant’s counsel shall prepare a proposed Order for submission to the Court that is in conformity with this Record Sheet entry. A copy of the proposed Order shall be submitted to Plaintiff for review.
The Clerk is directed to forward a copy of this Record Sheet entry to all parties.”
We covered her bogus defamation case and her criminal felony arrest in articles at this link.
The wheels of justice move slowly in Illinois. McKinney was charged on April 22, 2025, with three felony charges. After multiple reschedulings of her preliminary hearing, she has now waived the hearing and entered a not guilty plea. Her pre-trial hearing is set for 11/12/2025. While that may seem like it’s right around the corner, we suspect the date will change multiple times before there is an actual pre-trial hearing. We will update with a new article as the matter moves through the system.
