DeKalb Co., Ill. (ECWd) –

Nathan P. Sweeney was found guilty in DeKalb County Circuit Court of Count 2, Aggravated DUI in crash involving death.

His sentencing is scheduled for later this month.

Sweeney held a commercial driver’s license (“CDL”) at the time of this DUI which killed a DeKalb County Deputy Sheriff. He has been the subject of investigations into Kane County’s alleged masking of conviction(s) of a CDL holder.

The Illinois Secretary of State saidHis CDL would have been disqualified for life” in a scathing letter to the United Stated Department of Transportation asking them in investigate Kane County’s alleged masking of Sweeney’s previous convictions as a CDL holder.

Kane County admitted “mistakes were made” in Sweeney’s previous conviction(s) which allowed him to keep his CDL.

We will provide an update after his sentencing.
