Algonquin Township Settles $162,500.00 FOIA Lawsuit with Watchdogs –

Algonquin Township, IL. (ECWd) –

Last week, the Algonquin Township Board of Trustees voted unanimously to settle the multiple Freedom of Information Act lawsuits brought by us (ECWd) several years ago.

According to the settlement, a check for $81,250.00 was sent to our attorney, Denise Ambroziak, with the second $81,250.00 check to be delivered to her no later than April 1, 2022.

The township also has 30 days to either produce the remaining listed records or provide a certification statement that all records have been produced or are unavailable (no longer exist).

The prior board could have settled this case for $45,000.00 but refused at the time.  James Kelly was the attorney for the township during that time and the one who filed numerous unfounded arguments that appeared to be nothing more than a mechanism to bill the township in cases they could not win.

  1. So you gave up your right to make any other FOIA requests to this township in regard to anything that occurred prior to June 2021?

  2. Is it possible the township attorney was relying on a Magic 8 Ball for advice? Mine keeps giving me “Reply Hazy, Try Again”.

  3. My hope is that part of that money will help fund the “Watchdogs” and not just the attorney.
