Coles Co. (ECWd) –

A federal lawsuit was filed by Plaintiff Kara Chumbley naming Coles County State’s Attorney Jessie Daniels, former Mattoon Police Chief Jason Taylor, Mattoon Police Officer Alex Hesse, and newly indicted former Coles County Assistance State’s Attorney Brady Allen as defendants. The case was filed on October 4th, 2022.  This article details prior filings related to this matter which alleged prosecutorial misconduct by the State’s Attorney’s Office.  Allen denied the allegations as outlined in this article.

We understand Brady Allen has been avoiding service in the federal civil lawsuit. Attempts to have him served in this case while being processed in the Coles County jail on his recent indictments were unsuccessful as he was released with a $0.00 bond before the plaintiff’s attorney discovered he was being processed on 32 felony counts.

How does a man indicted on 32 felony counts receive a zero-dollar bond?  Judge Bower was the presiding judge at the first appearance.

We requested Brady Allen’s mug shot and have been informed by the Sheriff, Kent Martin, there is no mug shot.  He was informed the digital camera malfunctioned.  The Sheriff expressed his displeasure with that as any cell phone could have taken a digital picture and is confident that will not happen again.

The criminal indictments of Brady Allen are directly tied to the Federal complaint which can be downloaded at the following links or viewed below.
