Effort to Recall Dolton, IL. Mayor Tiffany Henyard On Ballot as Referendum –

Dolton, IL. (ECWd) –

The second time since 2015, a new effort to establish an elected official recall Ordinance in the Village of Dolton is on the ballot.

The previous recall ordinance was invalidated by the Appellate Court, who stated it was unconstitutional because the 2015 Ordinance was approved by the village board and not placed before the voters as a referendum.

The 2022 effort to establish a recall of the Mayor of Dolton, was approved at a village board meeting to be placed on the ballot as a referendum for the voters of the Village of Dolton to decide.

Home Rule municipalities in Illinois have the power to establish a recall ordinance through referendum.

There are two referendums on the June 2022 ballot, one to establish the recall ordinance, and the second to recall Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard.

Mayor Henyard has filed a lawsuit, which will be heard in Cook County Court this morning, challenging the constitutionality of both referendums. Henyard’s main issues are with both referendums being placed on the same ballot, and the recall only applying to the Mayoral position.

Henyard was also recently appointed as Supervisor of Thornton Township.
