Seneca Public Library Subpoena; Police Investigator advised them not to destroy recordings – –

Seneca, IL. (ECWd) –

The Seneca Public Library District was allegedly a recipient of a Subpoena for information related to an ongoing police investigation.

We have requested a copy of that subpoena through the Freedom of Information Act and should have it next week if it exists.

After receiving the alleged subpoena, the library placed “destruction of closed meeting recordings” on its January 19, 2022, meeting agenda.

Just after the meeting started, a board member asked that the destruction of those recordings be taken off the agenda. It was removed from the agenda.

During public comment time, a Seneca Police Department Investigator spoke in his official capacity, and after consultation with the LaSalle County State’s Attorney’s office, requested the library cease destroying any records, recordings, or anything else until such a time as their investigation is completed.

We will update this as more information becomes available.

Video provided by resident attending the meeting.
