Dan Vera, feature, Joliet Township, Will County

Joliet Township Closed Session Audio (Full) -

BY JOHN KRAFT & KIRK ALLEN

ON January 13, 2020

Joliet Township (ECWd) -

As you listen to this recording of the Joliet Township Board of Trustees Executive (Closed) Session of the June 11, 2019 meeting, remember these things:

  • Road District employees are not Township employees and cannot be discussed in the Township Board closed session
  • Road Commissioner is elected and cannot be discussed in a Township Board closed session
  • Township Supervisor is not the supervisor of the Road Commissioner
  • Township Supervisor is not the supervisor of Road District employees
  • Township Supervisor has absolutely no say in the day to day (or any other) operations of the road district or its personnel
  • Supervisor Dan Vera obviously thinks he has control over things he does not control
  • The Supervisor cannot make up a job position and then offer it to an official in hopes of getting a resignation (such action may be considered bribery)
  • Township and Township Road District are two distinct public bodies, neither controlling the other
  • Vera was the one, without any authority, who bullied the Road Commissioner into painting a brand new truck a different color

Previous articles using select clips from the full audio recording are:

  • Vera's thoughts on women workers (here)
  • Vera's comments on compensation (here)
  • Vera's ghost contracts and made up employment positions (here)
  • Joliet Township Attorney directed the board to violate the law (here)
